Okay, so I GET that many women (~70%) get nausea and emesis (the Dr's way to say vomiting) when the are pregnant. But what I don't understand is 10-15% of MEN get N&V during pregnancy?!?

And before anyone asks--Mother/Father--there is NOT an underlying secret message in the above observation!

The word for the day is Megacolon!

(Want to know what it is? Go google it and click on Images.)

ML and I went sledding yesterday behind the complex. We went there before and ML had a good time jumping this mogul which I think I mentioned. There is a little problem with three trees at the end of the path especially since the hill banks towards them. We took a snow shovel and solved that!

After about 30 minutes of packing snow around the trees to bank off of, we spent the next two hours going down the hill. Well, up and down the hill. We sledded into the sunset! Oddly, we were the only two there the whole time. Had a lot of fun and the snow-banks really helped a lot--at least I felt that it was less likely that I would ram into a tree. (Matching head wounds was not was I was going for.) There was one time where ML ended up aiming straight for the bank and almost launched over it into the forest before she bailed out! Too bad we did not have a camera with us!

We were going to go today after work but the busses were really packed and running late and ML did not make it home until after dark. :( Maybe later in the week.

I went to the dentist this morning which would normally not be noteworthy except I went to the dental school. I had an appointment with my neighbor Ken (a D4) and he spent almost 3 hours in my mouth! Not that there was really anything wrong, nor was he slow. He was just amazingly thorough. He's about to graduate and I'm not so sure I can spend 3 hours every time I need a cleaning so I'm thinking about using a private dentist especially since I have insurance. But, it was good to get a fully clean bill of oral health. (I do have a couple of epoxy fillings that need to be reworked, but that is not of my doing and pretty standard care.)

I posted the pictures from the Galveston snowfall from last year. Sorry for the delay, Nish! Also, I was inspired to post some pictures of a snowman I built when I was in Indiana back in 1992. We're supposed to get hit with some snow tonight, but I've managed to keep myself up WAY too late, so I think I should just go to sleep now. You see! That didn't even really make sense! Night....

Derelict in my duties! We just finished Hematology/Oncology and all I can say is I passed. I think! When I was a young boy of 5 and my grandmother was dying of cancer, I was sitting with my mother talking to the doctor describing my grandmother's cancer. At some point my mom asked me if I understood what the doctor was talking about and I explained back to her what I understood. (They were both amazed at my level of understanding since I was all of 5.) afterwards, I remember telling my mom that I wanted to become a "“blood doctor"” and cure cancer. A fact that I had forgotten by the time I was a teenage, but my mother reminded me shortly after I told her I was applying to medical school. Well, now that I know that a "“blood doctor”" is a hematologist, and knowing what I know now about how I feel about hematology, well, let's just say, "“Not So MUCH!"” It's a shame that the professors can make a lecture series and exam so brutal that it totally turns you off to something you were going to do to save other little 5 year old boys from having to lose their grandmothers. The professors kept saying that less than 1% of us will go into hematology. I want to tell them, “"Well of course it is that low. You guys make it such a miserable experience who the heck would WANT to go into the field."”

But, who am I to complain?

Unfortunately for ML, her birthday was on the same day as my final exam so we deferred the celebration until yesterday. I think we'll continue to party a little the weekend.

In other news: snow! And burrr temperatures, but not in that order. Well actually, snow-burr-snow. I think, thus far, we have received much more snow this year than last and it seems to be a little more like I remember Indiana being. But I'm not sick of it yet.

Ugh! I caught a little bug that started making its appearance last night. Now I have a sore throat and a below normal temperature--I'm pretty sure it's viral. (I'm such a pathetic sight!) Good thing my exam isn't until week after next!

I'm pretty sure I caught it from my neighbors and if their recovery is any indication, I should be done with it in a day or two. Provided I don't kill myself by staying up late studying: that won't happen.

We got a few more inches of snow yesterday and spent the afternoon sledding behind the complex. It's a great hill but there are a bunch of trees at the bottom making it a little treacherous. There was a mogul (so to speak) in the middle that ML loved to hit and go flying into the air. It was fun to watch. I landed a little hard so I stopped jumping it while I was ahead! Today there was some melting and looks like we're in for rain during the week ahead. I'll believe when it happens. They're not too good at predicting weather up here. (It was like that when I was at Purdue, too.)

Eek! I'm trapped in Hematology/Oncology hell. The group to professors do not really understand how to spoon-feed us students information and the order they are presenting the information is rather odd and almost incomprehensible. They warned us about that and that (supposedly) the class "comes together" at the very end. So, we'll see.

In the weather news, it's starting to feel like we actually live in the mid-west. We had a good six to eight inches on the ground last night and now we're getting another four inches today!

Some of you may have heard that there was snow in Galvetraz over Christmas. A friend of mine from UTMB sent me some great pictures and I'll post them in the coming days, so look for them!
